With only less than 1 and a half years to go, I’m turning 25! I am getting older and dealing with a quarter-life crisis, it feels like I haven’t done much in my life yet! I don’t feel bad about the things I have not accomplished yet, and I’m not in a hurry.

Of course, you start comparing yourself with others. You start questioning your life decisions. You start to doubt yourself; it’s a lot of things. To make things a bit more fun before I turn 25, I decided to create a bucket list of 25 things to do before turning 25.

This doesn’t mean you have to stop trying when you turn 25 just because you were not able to do this. The fun part is to keep doing it after!

Let’s check these 25 things to do before 25, shall we?

Explore your own city

Be a tourist in your own city. Exploring your own city can be refreshing because you can see a different perspective about the place you currently live in.

Check out your city’s hidden gems and secret spots and be surprised. Sometimes beauty is right in front of you, you just forget to see it!

Find more attractions and destinations in your own city in Klook! It is my favorite website because they often have discounts! Win-win

Travel abroad

There’s no age limit on when you should travel abroad, but traveling abroad in your early 20’s is going to be such a good experience. First, you have more energy and enthusiasm and you’ll be fearless than you ever will be. You don’t have that many responsibilities to deal with yet, and most probably you won’t have that much constraints.

Visit some underrated countries and find the cheapest flights through Skyscanner!

Watch a movie at the cinema on your own

Isn’t it weird that we can shop on our own and do all regular stuff on our own, yet we find it difficult (and scary) to watch a movie alone at the cinema?

At the back of my head, I used to think that people might see me alone and think that I don’t have friends to watch a movie with. I get it, we grew up thinking that watching a movie at the cinema is like bonding with friends.

But, yes, we shouldn’t be ashamed and worried! There’s nothing wrong with going to a movie theater alone!

Start eating healthy

You are not getting any younger! It’s time to start thinking about your own health and start eating healthy. I couldn’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t eat healthy as much as you can (cheat day is still as important).

Learn how to manage your own money

As as soon as you start earning your own money, you need to learn how to manage it properly! I wish I knew a lot of things about money when I started working, I wouldn’t be in debt now (It sucks!).

Learn how to manage your own money so you can have better spending decisions and have more awareness on where your money goes.

How do you imagine your retirement?

Don’t make the same mistakes I did in my early 20’s. Avoid these common money mistakes now.

This is definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25.

Get a life insurance

I bought life insurance quite late; I should have gotten one as soon as I can support myself. Getting life insurance early can support you and your beneficiaries in the future. By now, you probably don’t have children yet but you’re not going to stay like that forever.

Also, the older you get, the higher the premium is. So, get that life insurance immediately!

This is definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25.

Start saving money

YOLO (you only live once) was a thing once. I used to think that I have a job, I have money coming every month (twice a month in the Philippines), so I can spend it all and start saving next time. A few years after, I am reaching 25 and I don’t have enough savings nor emergency fund *facepalm*.

Start saving money now so you don’t have to worry about your finances as your responsibilities grow. It is better to prepare early; you can still have as much fun as you want if you do #5 properly!

This is definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25.

Start investing

Never underestimate the power of compound interest!

I had a financial goal where I wanted to have a certain amount of money by 25. I computed my salary then, and I realized it will take me a lot of years to get there. Little did I know that you can invest your money.

My idea was only to leave the money to the bank where you get a little interest rate (not worth it).

Invest your disposable income (extra money) to a mutual fund or the stock market. You’d be surprised to see how much that money grew a few years after.

This is definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25.

Find an exercise that fits your lifestyle

Start building a habit of exercising a few times a week. It will not only keep you healthy, but it will help your body and mind to stay focused. Find an exercise that fits your lifestyle and achieve your goals.

Read and finish a book at least once a month

Make a list of books that you want to read and start reading one by one. You can read through a book itself, ebook, or listen to an audiobook.

I prefer listening to an audiobook because I cannot sit still and I am always on the go.

Spend more time with family

Your parents are getting older, soon you are going to move out and have your own family. Take this chance to spend more time with your family while you still have them.

Learn a new language

There are a lot of benefits to being bilingual. I only speak English and Tagalog but I want to learn another language. It’s fun to be able to learn a new language and you will also learn about cultural diversity.

Think about which language you want to learn. With just 10 minutes a day, you can slowly learn a new language.

I like apps like Duolingo. The free version is enough for you to learn a new language and Duolingo makes it fun as well.

Get out of your comfort zone

It’s not too late to completely change your career. You can start taking new courses. You can quit your job and pursue your passion. Get out of your comfort zone and stop living in a bubble.

Getting out of your comfort zone helps you achieve more than you ever thought. When something doesn’t scare you or excite you anymore, then it’s time to try something new.

Go on a solo trip

Push your limits and go on a solo trip! It’s an opportunity to explore and get to know more about yourself. While the idea of going on a solo trip is less unsafe than traveling with someone, don’t hold back and just have extra precautions to keep yourself safe.

To start with, find the best places to travel alone and see what the other travelers suggest.

Remove toxic people from your life

You are at an age where having more friends doesn’t matter anymore. Choose your friends and remove toxic people from your life. It’s more than enough that you have to deal with a quarter-life crisis, don’t spend energy on toxic people.

Surround yourself with people who support you and encourage you — that’s the only people you will need.

This is definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25.

Learn to cook your own meal

Definitely one of the 25 things to do before 25! Learning to cook your own meal not only saves you money from eating out, but it also lets you eat healthily. You choose your own ingredients and you get to choose what to put in your food.

I honestly don’t enjoy cooking, but I like the thought of being able to cook for myself.

Build confidence and trust yourself more

Being at this age is difficult since you compare yourself to other’s successes and you question your life decisions. Especially with social media, it is difficult to think about the behind-the-scenes. Of course, people only show the highlights of their life but not the struggles.

Start building your confidence and stop comparing. Everyone has their own struggles, and nothing comes easy. Trust yourself more because you are already doing better than you thought.

I had to add this to the list of 25 things to do before 25 because I think that this is the most important thing growing up.

Invest in yourself

The next thing you shouldn’t miss out on doing before turning 25 is to start investing in yourself.

It's not selfish to prioritize yourself because, at the end of the day, the only person you will depend on will be YOU.Click to Tweet

I’m a big fan of self-care and self-love! It’s not selfish to prioritize yourself because, at the end of the day, the only person you will depend on will be YOU. Investing in yourself will also lead you to a better future.

Live on your own

In an Asian household (like mine!), it’s normal to still live with your parents. The only time you will move out is when you have your own family!

But one of the 25 things to do before 25 is to try living on your own. You can move to an apartment close to your school or work and just get an idea of what it’s like to live your own life.

I was 16 when I moved out of my parents’ house because I studied abroad, I also moved closer to work so I only go home on weekends. It’s a good start to be independent and you start to learn how to manage your time and be productive, how to keep your home clean, and how to be an adult.

Learn to say no

Learning to say no will improve your life significantly. Saying no doesn’t mean you are a bad person, it just means you don’t want or think it is worth it.

Know your value (like in #17 & #18) and choose your own opinion over others. Think about if it is worth it or not.

If you cannot say no directly, you can start by saying you are not comfortable. Don’t lie because you will just feel guilty!

Express yourself and be creative

Express yourself and don’t think about what would other people say. It is YOUR life, YOUR body. If you want to color your hair pink, go ahead. If you want to go against the fashion trends, go ahead.

Do you have a different taste in music? Don’t be ashamed. I like country music and people often have negative comments about it, but I don’t care.

Take a social media detox

We know how social media affect us. With Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, sometimes social media is our source of stress for a lot of reasons.

Take a social media detox and spend that time to yourself or do something that you want. You will see how much your mood will improve.

Learn to do basic household chores

If you are trying to live independently, then you should at least learn to do basic household chores such as

  1. Sweeping
  2. Vacuuming
  3. Doing your own laundry
  4. Folding your own clothes
  5. Washing the dishes
  6. Cleaning the bathroom
  7. Cooking your own food

Take more pictures

I am a big fan of taking a lot of photos while still living in the moment. I take more pictures, not for social media, but for me to have something to remember with.

The photos capture the fun memories. It’s often easier to recall the ‘bad memories’ than the good ones so having something to remember the good memories are important.

Live your best life

Lastly, live your best life.

We cannot control everything that’s going on in our lives. But, you can still control your life by changing your mindset, challenging yourself, taking care of yourself, and living your best possible life.

Don’t be afraid to forgive yourself and start over. Do the things that make you happy!

Don’t miss out on the 26 things I learned in 26 years.

And, those are the 25 things to do before turning 25! How many do you want to accomplish on your next birthday?

This bucket list of 25 things to do before 25 is just an idea to make some things fun before your birthday! You don’t need to accomplish all of it, just take your sweet time and enjoy the progress.

Also, don’t forget to continue doing it even after you turn 25!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to comment down below.

  1. Same with tattoo & change color! I always wanted to have a tattoo, maybe after I graduate. Haha. I will read your blog post about buying some stocks because I’ve been always curious about it (anything about financial).
Hope you can achieve all of them! ❤

    1. I still don’t have a tattoo! I wanted to have one on my back, but I really still have a tough time choosing the perfect design. It’s kinda scary since it’s going to be permanent.
